Not only has The Olswang Art Award provided our students with an unparalleled opportunity to showcase their creativity in a prestigious environment, but it has enriched their business skills, increased their confidence and raised their aspirations."Sunshine Coward, Head of Art at Haverstock School.
Launched this year, the Art Award is an annual event with our community partner, Haverstock School, Camden. The Art Award invites submissions from Haverstock School's sixth form art and photography students, with the results being judged and exhibited in Olswang's London office. The theme of the 2011 Art Award was based on the work of our charity partner Coram, the UK's oldest children's charity, who work with vulnerable children and families. This set the tone for our inaugural Art Award exhibition, entitled 'the vulnerability of youth'.
As part of the students' preparation for the Art Award, Olswang volunteers ran workshops for the participants on presentation skills and IP law so that they better understood the value of their work.
Student feedback showed that the Art Award had a real impact – 83% of students said they learnt new skills and now understood more about how they would sell their work. 94% said that they enjoyed taking part in the project and understood more about what Coram did and 76% said that the Art Award had helped with their school work.
