What law firm would take on a small, aspiring charity with a hugely ambitious project as Elephant Parade, and give them not only free legal advice for 18 months, but also negotiate the best possible outcome on our many contracts and deals. Their passion for our cause matches our own. If you're looking for somebody to really look after you, not only legally, look no further than Olswang – they really care and have genuine green ethics."Mark Shand, Principal Trustee, Elephant Family
Olswang provided pro bono legal advice for the Elephant Parade, a conservation campaign that shines a multi-coloured spotlight on the urgent crisis faced by the endangered Asian elephant.
Coordinated by the Elephant Family, a charity that works to save the endangered Asian elephant from extinction and abuse, The Elephant Parade saw over 250 brightly painted life-size elephants positioned throughout central London last summer. With an estimated audience of 25 million, the campaign raised £4.1 million for the Asian elephant and benefited 20 conservation charities.
Olswang had its very own elephant in the parade. We ran an art competition at Haverstock School in Camden for students to design the elephant for us to bring to life the conservation work the Elephant Family undertakes. The students presented to a panel of senior staff at Olswang who chose the winning design of a thought provoking and dynamic combination of London's city skyline and the rainforest. After the students painted our elephant it was proudly housed at Olswang's London office. The auction of Eco the Elephant went on to contribute £13,500 to the campaign.
