We are so grateful for the time volunteers from Olswang spend reading with our pupils, helping them to improve their literacy skills. Year 6 is the last year the pupils spend at primary school before moving up to senior school, so it is essential they feel confident in their literacy before this transition. The one-on-one time the volunteers are able to provide the pupils, really helps them grow in both self-confidence and ability. We also really appreciate all the donations of books to our library - the children were thrilled with all the new choices!” Jacqueline Phelan, Head Teacher, Carlton Primary School
Carlton Primary School in Kentish Town serves a local area that is particularly socially deprived and diverse with 27 different languages spoken in the school. As a result, there is a distinct need for volunteers to enhance the programmes already in place to boost the key skills of its students. Olswang volunteers support this need, regularly visiting Carlton Primary School to assist Year 6 pupils with their reading and literacy.
